Those Ohio CMN ‘Marchers’ in Third Day
IRWIN, Ohio — In a follow-up to Sunday’s “Credit Union Cherry
Blossom 10 Mile Run” for charity, a hardy band of Ohio CU executives
were doing their own thing Tuesday in a daily walkathon from
Columbus to Cincinnati.
The “Marching Miles for Miracle Kids” benefiting Children’s Miracle
Network hospitals landed in this south central Ohio community
overnight “and today we are in great spirits and expecting 70 degree
temperatures for the marchers,” said spokeswoman Jamie Crooks,
calling Credit Union Times from an RV behind a dozen walkers.
The “Marching Miles” project, now in its third day and aimed at
showing CU generosity and community involvement, is the creation of
Bill Butler, president/CEO of Ohio Healthcare Federal Credit Union
of Dublin where the 180-mile march began on Sunday, the same day as
the Washington 10 mile run.
The Ohio March hopes to raise $75,000 by April 19 at the end of the
walk in Cincinnati in time for the Ohio Credit Union League’s annual
convention.
Nearly 50 Ohio CU executives and families showed up on Sunday for
speeches with 20 taking part in the first day’s 10-mile walk to from
a children’s hospital in Dublin to Western Credit Union in Plain
City. Today’s walk is to end in Mechanicsburg, a distance of six
miles. -
